The St. Louis Browns, St. Louis’ first baseball team, was once owned by Chris Von der Ahe, who also was proprietor of a saloon at Grand and St. Louis Avenues. His statue is the work of a relative in Germany and was erected long before he died. While he was still living, the year of his death was placed on the monument — his clairvoyance was accurate.
