The Gardens of Bellefontaine
The gardens of Bellefontaine Cemetery & Arboretum are thoughtfully designed as living spaces for contemplation, beauty, and reflection. Ranging from manicured formal beds to serene naturalistic landscapes, these gardens are woven into the fabric of our Arboretum's 314 acres. You'll find vibrant plantings near our entrance gates, meticulously cared-for flower beds by the Hotchkiss Chapel Columbarium, and expansive natural areas like our Wildwood Valley Gardens. Each garden complements the historical and natural features of the grounds, inviting visitors to pause, reflect, and find inspiration.
Wildwood Valley Gardens
Explore one of the most beautiful garden spaces in St. Louis, the Wildwood Valley Gardens. This exquisite area showcases a harmonious blend of formal and natural garden design elements, establishing itself as a true St. Louis botanical gem. Nestled within Bellefontaine, Wildwood Valley represents a profound re-envisioning of the landscape, inviting visitors to connect with nature's beauty.
St. Louis Botanical Jewel
At its heart, this garden space features a gently curving, bubbling stream that the overlook areas that offer views of the cascading stream and landscape, native limestone, taking inspiration from Missouri's natural waterways. The design carefully integrates diverse plantings, including vibrant lilies and numerous native species crucial for pollinators. Among these are several kinds of milkweed, the essential host plant for monarch butterflies, making the valley a dynamic habitat for local wildlife. Paths gracefully guide visitors through this sensory experience, where the modulated sounds of water and the scents of various flowers create a tranquil atmosphere. As its young trees mature, they will further frame picturesque views and provide ample shade, enhancing Wildwood Valley as a truly unique and serene garden destination.

Garden of Angels
There is no greater tragedy than the loss of a small child. Through the Garden of Angels and Angels Rest initiative, the Friends provide the sacred, final resting place for infants and small children whose families are facing unexpected loss and financial hardship.
