RICHARD “RICK” LAY
Vice
President of Customer Relations
Rick’s roots in this field go deep—he started working part-time in the funeral industry in the late 1970s, drawn early on to the unique history and serene beauty of Bellefontaine Cemetery. Over the years, he has witnessed and helped guide its evolution from a traditional grave-only cemetery into a distinguished garden‑arboretum with a broad array of memorial options.
In February 2008, Rick assumed the role of Vice President of Customer Relations. A licensed funeral director and ordained minister, he brings professionalism, compassion, and deep reverence to his work. He is committed to preserving Bellefontaine’s storied past, honoring the families we serve, and helping people thoughtfully plan for final resting places and memorials. As Rick often says, “I feel honored to help people remember their loved ones in meaningful ways.”
Rick is also deeply involved in the cemetery profession beyond Bellefontaine. He is a past president and active member of the Cemetery Management Association (CMA) and currently serves as Vice President of the Associated Cemeteries of Missouri (ACM).
Outside of work, Rick enjoys evenings out with his wife Tracy—whether sharing a meal or enjoying live music—and cherishing time together.
